5Beautiful Christmas Tree!!
By T. Taylor
I purchased this tree after I lost my Christmas tree in a flood this summer and I am so happy with it!! I was worried when I opened it up and assembled it. It looked like it was never going to be anything like the picture. After I started to spread the branches, I kept thinking that it still wasn't going to be full. I kept finding more branches and more lights and when I got toward the top, it just kept looking better and better!! One thing to try during assembly...finish spreading all around the bottom first so that you are able to see all of the branches; then do the next row up and so on to the top. And the LED lights are great...white bulbs or multi-colored...your choice with only a flip of the switch. Also a long enough wire to reach around the corner to plug it in! Excellent purchase for me.

3Good but not great
By MN_Ron
First impressions were good: the tree was in 3 pieces, easy to put together. The stand works just fine, seems able to support the tree with no problems. The lights are bright, and the white lights are a warm white; I couldn't tell that they were LED's. And they didn't exhibit the annoying flicker that some of us are more sensitive to. The quibbles I have with it start at this point:

The box is HEAVY. Really heavy. I had trouble maneuvering it into the house by myself. I don't think the box will hold up more than a couple years, so we will probably have to find an alternative storage container.

Each section of tree has just one plug for that section's lights, which is a good thing. But the light strands are all attached to the transformer and foot switch via a proprietary set of connectors. The connectors are difficult to find or see when putting the tree together. Some alternate color for the connectors or a tag of some sort would have been nice. And they do not use a standard double-prong outlet style. This will make replacement of failed light strands difficult in the future. I stretched the cord a bit when trying to put this together, and realized the cord wasn't long enough for me to spin the tree in place. I predict newer trees will appear soon that will use standard two prong connectors, making it easier to find and replace the strand to fix a broken light fixture or stretched cord.

The next part of the setup is to "fluff" the branches by bending and shaping them into the correct position. I have seen other trees appear this year (2012) where this is not necessary, and those trees were less expensive than this one. This was always the part that took the longest with my previous trees, and I had hoped this would take less time to fluff. It's no different than most other trees on the market, so I can live with it.

Next is the "Feel Real" branches. Granted, there are a LOT of branch tips for displaying more ornaments. But these Feel Real tips do not seem to have any supporting wire in them, unlike the rest of the branches. This means that heavier ornaments pull these branches down, and more than one ornament fell off our tree.

Going back to the cord: there is no provision for installing a lighted topper on this tree. So you still must run an extension cord through the tree to the top to plug one in. Again, if this were using standard two prong connectors, it would have been possible to just plug the topper into the end of the top light strand, assuming it used end-to-end connectors. One less step, and one less electrical outlet needed.

As for the lights, they have a problem, too. The switch cycles from off->white->multicolor->off. If you put the lights on a timer, be aware that the lights will NOT come on via the timer if they are left in the multicolor position. You will need to press the foot switch manually every day to turn the lights on again. They will come on automatically if left on the white light position only. Another prediction: this problem will be resolved in the next version of this tree. It shouldn't matter what setting they were in when the timer shuts off; they should come back on in that same setup when the timer turns back on.

Overall, though, the tree is beautiful, the lights are bright and have a great gimmick by changing colors at the press of a button.

4A Great Holiday Tree!
By Andrew Epstein
We purchased this tree from Amazon after an especially bad experience with Balsam Hill. Knowing that we could trust Amazon to stand behind their product, we were confident that we'd be able to return it if it was defective or we simply didn't enjoy it.

When we unboxed it, I initially thought it was going to be very sparse and unattractive. The branches seemed to be too far apart, and I worried this would make the tree look "empty". However, once the tree was assembled, and we'd spent about an hour "fluffing" the individual branches, the tree look much fuller, though there were still some gaps. I think it could use about 20% more hinged branches to really make it full.

The lighting was very simple to connect. There was one "hub" where all of the connecting sockets merged, and the cascading plugs from the higher sections of the tree plugged into these. There is no "right" or "wrong" socket, and this made wiring very easy. I especially liked the screw-on plugs, which helped to prevent any accidental unplugging (especially when you have cats that want to smack all the ornaments).

The dual LED system was very cool. The footswitch was easy to operate, even hidden under the tree skirt. One step to turn on the white LEDs, a second step to turn them all different colors (there is only one strand of lights, and the individual LEDs turn color), and a third step to turn the lights off again. The lights were very bright, and could light the entire room with a soft, romantic, holiday glow.

The "Feel-Real" branches were enough to fool our inlaws, but they are not as plentiful as I would have liked for this price. I thought they could have used more of this type, and fewer of the "standard" artificial tree branches. The Feel Real ends of the branches did make hanging ornaments slightly more difficult because it was not easy to get the ornament hooks to settle on the branch. They mostly tried to hover on top of the plastic Feel Real needles, and some care was required to weave the ornament hook to nestle on the branch.

The base was very wide and easy to deploy, and even with several cats pouncing from time to time, the tree remained very stable.

This tree is a bit expensive, but very good quality, and I'm glad we made this purchase.
